No Part of Me Feeling Sorry

From Clean Canvas, 2018.

No Part of Me Feeling Sorry

Torch-up those emotions
Grease fire in the brain pan
Smile marred by scorch marks
years of my life trying
and when it happened
it happened so fast
and after
the exhaustion the regret
the black marks on the ceiling
part of me feels relieved
the other part enjoying the excitement

  1. I love the use of the (disastrous) cooking metaphors. Moving forward through life is, for me personally, all about finding ways of accepting all of life’s experiences, the rough and the smooth, and working hard to ensure that the way we are shaped by those experiences is as positive as possible. I actually find regret exhausting and mentally debilitating.

  2. I think there are so many mixed feelings about a catastrophic regret – sometimes I think people like the excitement of a bust up as much as the satisfaction of resolving it?
