From the collection published in 2017, Refuge.

The reader sits in the library
superimposed on
the atolls of peeled varnish
strung along the deep pale gouge
curving out
in a generous open-arm sweep
halfway across
the table a map of endurance and patience
cold feet
and the spark
of picking up the trail

  1. That’s how I feel when I open a book, either it is opening a door and stepping into a new building that I will need to explore and understand how it fits and what the flow of life is in it, or a river or trail or road, that you travel with the story. I always have such a great sense of anticipation upon setting off into someplace new, book-wise.
