Conditions

From Spring Cleaning, a collection published in 2015.

Conditions

The sun is stronger than it was two weeks ago.
The playground.
Kids too young to go to school
occupy this bit of earth
this intense-focus world
One bounded by the sandbox and the swings and the fence
By short legs, uncertain language skills,
a schedule set by someone else
Brought into being now
only because
the sun is stronger than it was two weeks ago.

Clay tile, 6″ x 6″, 2016.

  1. I remember those playground days…although I was one of those mothers out in inclement weather as well. There were always a few of us…(K)

  2. “a schedule set by someone else”
Love the poem and the tile. 🙂
This subject seems to follow me today – my niece is having a baby. Happy!

  3. Thank you. Along with zinnias they are my favorite flower and I love to put them in artwork (and give them faces, that part, I don’t know why, but they seem to have them already, to me, in real life).
