Haiku 220

The loud woman glares
at her phone and then at us
for our eavesdropping

  1. Thank you. I have longed for the days of phone booths myself – both from the standpoint of this haiku, and also – for that nice sense of enclosure and total concentration I used to get, talking on a phone in a booth. The idea that the outside world was… outside. and that my conversation occupied the center of the universe! And I’ll put in my gratitude for the quiet car on the train, too, right here. A stroke of genius, that idea…

  2. Absolutely. I’m not given to eavesdropping but even I’ve found myself listening to conversations because it was impossible not to and sometimes because it was impossible to continue with my own conversation.
