Crashed

From the poetry collection Autumn Opens a Door, published in fall, 2015.

Crashed

The fire at the county club
started in the basement. Rushed up the stairs.
Consumed most of the roof the remainder of which
fell in. The ballroom
is open to the sky.
The wedding scheduled for next weekend
must be moved elsewhere
quickly.
The firemen
stayed on the scene for two days. They
were not on the original guest list.

    • No, you are right, it’s in the Autumn book and I may also have featured it as the poem of the day in that autumn 2015 marathon (because I know I liked it right off the bat). I’m posting the poems from those 4 “seasonal” books in their seasons (it will take years so my blog is securely set for some time…) among new poems and other poems. I try to keep track but things fall through the cracks. You have a sharp ear and thank you for remembering the poem. !!!
