Some Spring Thoughts

This poem is the result of another one of those situations where I had more ideas than could fit into one work. It’s related to the haikus from an earlier post – about people and sights I encountered at a local park. Beginnings and endings are mixed together in this life, sitting side by side, maybe, but not always as friends?

Sing a Bittersweet Spring Song

Black crow old men harsh sun budding trees
The black crow’s rough voice
softened for the moment
The park bench a refuge
for the three old men
barely able to walk to it

Clear bright sun sieved through
the near-bare branches
of the small trees new to the job
without much to remember yet
Though looking to be around
long after men, crow, benches, and I
have gone on
to wherever we are headed

But for now, it’s another spring,
and all of us are here
Today
Black crow old men harsh sun budding trees
