Freight Train

I went to the park a couple of weeks ago to sit in the sun. I often go to this park to run on the trails, but I can’t do that now. Instead, I settled down at the hawk-watching post and took in the nice day.

A rail line runs along the bottom of the hill and a freight train passed as I was there. The experience prompted these haikus.

1.
Three-engine freight train
easily outpaces deer
running beside it

2.
Three-engine freight train
accelerating slowly
raising its dark voice

3.
Three-engine freight train
intent on its own business
slowly picks up speed

4.
Three-engine freight train
moves slowly past stoic cars
at the grade crossing
