The Entire ABC Haiku

One last time on this subject! Here are all the haikus I wrote for the Alphabet Faces haiku mail art I did in the late winter and early spring, in order of the alphabet. If you want to know what the project was about, here’s the info: Alphabet Faces.

It was fun to do this extended series. I am thinking about making a zine out of it now. Could be a lot of fun.

Haiku ABC

Letter “A”, at home
in upper left-hand corner.
Number one. Not shy.
2/4/13

Let me introduce –
There, pushing meeker letters-
Big guy letter “B”.
2/10/13

“C” is essential
to composition. No “C”,
you don’t get started.
2/5/13

You are in no doubt
with letter “D” – step out strong,
finish hard. Just so.
2/13/13

Skillful letter “E”
even-handedly sets off
enunciation.
3/27/13

Flirty letter “F”,
extended fingers luring
lookers into reading
3/19/13

Gaping letter “G”,
poised to eat its prey, lunges
at the line of type.
2/6/13

Hearty letter “H”,
balanced on two healthy legs.
No wobble. No lean.
3/17/13

Spotlight letter “I”
That’s all that’s needed to spell
Earth’s favorite word.
2/14/13

Letter “J” reaches,
wrist crooked, grabs on, and jostles
everyone in line.
2/25/13

Letter “K”, hand raised,
Foot down, complete stop, hard sound:
you’ll know when you meet.
3/27/13

You can’t be too thin
if you’re letter “L”.Too rich?
Another story.
3/4/13

Monolithic, firm,
stolid, dependable, fixed.
Count on letter “M”.
3/27/13

Independent words
alphabet-wide, incomplete
without letter “N”.
3/7/13

Ovoid letter “O”
egg-shaped and roly-poly
bouncing into place
3/18/13

Peer over the crowd-
Peek through their feet- either one,
That’s the letter “P”.
2/19/13

Quiet letter “Q”,
forced to take part in squabbles
or the odd quarrel.
3/27/13

Raffish letter “R”,
You step out, a pointed toe,
nudge the line of type
3/27/13

The big letter “S”
sailing out of sight. But why
in such a hurry?
1/31/13

Truly, letter “T”,
for a syllable dinner,
the tabletop’s yours.
3/14/13

Letter “U”, arms raised
in an arc to the sun, turns,
and smiles to the sky.
2/15/13

Letter “V” swoops in,
slots into line, preens itself
and settles, unfussed.
2/27/13

Wingspan wide open,
letter “W” crowds out
more timid typemates
3/16/13

Secretive. Unknown.
Enigma. Mystery. Who?
Letter “X” won’t tell.
3/6/13

Letter “Y” stands up
to lead off- and to finish,
sits, quite gracefully.
2/28/13

It was always known
eventually an end
would come, letter “Z”!
